Wolfgang Schmid is a Professor of Music Therapy at the Grieg Academy, Faculty of Fine Art, Music and Design at the University of Bergen. He also works part time as music therapist in interdisciplinary end-of-life care at the Palliative Care Center, Haukeland University Hospital.
In his participatory and practice-led research, he explores the significance and potential of music for individuals who are terminally ill or dying. He is particularly interested in how their experiences and activities can be captured and shared with a broader audience using post-qualitative and arts-based methods.
Wolfgang is a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of Grieg Research School, and coordinator of education at the Grieg Academy. He is founder member of the interdisciplinary New European Bauhaus group at the Faculty of Fine Art, Music and Design.
His current arts-based, community-engaged research project IMAGINE - envisioning care at the end of life explores how people engaging with artistic processes envision care for themselves and others: https://www4.uib.no/en/research/research-projects/imagine.
