This recital focuses on aspects of the contemporary repertoire for solo flute, as it has recently developed in the city of Thessaloniki, with particular emphasis on the community of the Aristotle University. The works presented here —along with five additional pieces— are part of the postdoctoral research of Dr. Iordanidou, grounded in the methodologies of Arts-Based Research and A/r/tography. The research aims to explore and document evolutionary stages in the contemporary music historiography of Thessaloniki, through eight micro-histories of composers active in the city. The recital functions as a living extension of the research process, proposing a mode of knowledge dissemination that emerges directly through artistic practice.
Dr. Theodora Iordanidou (b. 1988) is Principal Flutist of the Athens Philharmonia Orchestra and a versatile soloist and chamber musician. She has appeared in concerts and recitals across Greece and Central Europe (Germany, Austria, Luxembourg, Italy, Belgium, Denmark). She studied flute performance at the University of Music in Nuremberg (BMus, MMus) and holds a PhD in Musicology from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, where she is currently a Postdoctoral Researcher and Adjunct Lecturer. A recipient of numerous awards and scholarships (such as DAAD, “Onassis”, Trianti), Dr. Iordanidou, through her postdoctoral research, aims to combine her dual professional identities by integrating music performance and analysis within a scientific framework, employing methodological tools from the field of arts-based research.
